In partnership with CarbonCure Technologies, this Austin ready mix company and its customers have reached new levels of savings.

Austin, TX – July 7, 2021 – Lauren Concrete, the leading provider of ready-mix concrete in Austin and Central Texas, has surpassed 1,000 tons of CO2 savings through the use of CarbonCure’s technology on jobs across the entire Austin-area. This technology, which injects recycled CO₂ into fresh concrete, was first installed at two Lauren Concrete plant locations in 2019 and has since expanded to service all of Austin with plans to expand further.

CarbonCure takes recycled CO₂ gas and injects it into fresh concrete at the load point. As the concrete truck drum turns and the concrete interacts with the CO₂, the gas becomes a solid mineral which is permanently trapped in the concrete. The benefit of using CarbonCure is two-fold: The concrete traps CO₂, and the mineralization of the CO₂ increases the strength of the concrete, therefore decreasing the amount of cement needed while still meeting strength requirements. Cement manufacturing is responsible for approximately seven percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions and is also in high demand, particularly in the Austin market.

In partnership with builders and contractors across the Austin-area, Lauren Concrete has been able to utilize CarbonCure’s concrete technology to reach substantial CO₂ savings.

“Lauren Concrete is excited to be leading the way in sustainable construction practices in the communities we serve,” said Matt Jetmore, Lauren Concrete Central General Manager.

“CarbonCure is thrilled to celebrate this important milestone with Lauren Concrete,” said CarbonCure Chair and CEO Rob Niven. “We are proud of what we have accomplished together and look forward to our continued partnership.”

Concrete made with CarbonCure was utilized on the University of Texas Sarah M. & Charles Seay Building Expansion project in downtown Austin, TX. In addition, The new H-E-B location at Lake Austin is utilizing our concrete made with CarbonCure.

Lauren Concrete is proud to partner with CarbonCure Technologies and builders across Austin to reach new milestones in reducing the carbon footprint of the built environment one truck, and one job, at a time.
