Lauren Concrete has made it easier for customers to reach their sustainability goals in 2023. Starting this year, we are offering on-demand, product-specific EPD’s (Environmental Product Declarations) at our Austin-area ready mix concrete plant locations.
Background
EPD’s are like a nutrition label for concrete. After a comprehensive lifecycle assessment is done on a single concrete mix, an EPD is created to report the findings and overall environmental impact of the mix. An EPD includes data such as global warming potential, smog creation, water pollution, ozone depletion and more.
This information provided in an EPD is particularly helpful to project stakeholders as they make decisions that support their sustainability goals, obtain LEED Certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design – the most prominent green building rating system used throughout the globe), and achieve optimal sustainability ratings with AEGB (Austin Energy Green Building).
Green Concrete
Another way builders can boost sustainability is by utilizing our concrete made with CarbonCure Technologies. CarbonCure injects recycled CO₂ into freshly mixed concrete where it transforms into a mineral that is permanently trapped in the concrete forever. The environmental impact is two-fold; by using CarbonCure Technology we are able to capture and store CO₂ that would otherwise freely pollute the environment, and through this process we can reduce the cement content in the mix due to the mineralization of the CO₂.
